Aircraft Model: Maverick Location: Hamilton, New Zealand Serial No: 114M Engine: Jabiru 2200 80HP May 27, 1999 Builder Comments by Brian Farrell: Have just finished the flight test programme on the Royal Aeronautical Society/St Pauls Collegiate School Maverick ZK-SPC Serial No. 114M. What a delightful little aircraft you have there. Not a mean bone in its body. The building group has done a great job on it and is a great credit to them. This Maverick is powered by a Jabiru 2200 80HP engine which was obtained as a firewall forward pack from Jabiru Australia. The aircraft has the standard wing with bare metal leading edges. The aircraft has an empty weight of 487 pounds giving us a disposable load of 463 pounds. That is efficient! The empty weight includes 8 pounds of lead in the tail to keep the forward C of G within the forward limits with no fuel and an 80 pound pilot. We can't, practically, load the aircraft to the rear C of G (very safe). The wing fuel tank actually worked out to hold 65 litres which is quite a bonus. The performance of the aircraft is quite amazing when you realise that, due to the propeller being too coarse we are only obtaining RPM that equates with 55HP. When a finer propeller is located and the horsepower is obtained I can only guess at the improvement! At Gross weight the performance is: Cruise 80mph@2900rpm,
climb 470fpm@60mph. I have attached a JPEG for the website which was taken on my camera at the end of the flight test programme. I am flying the aircraft over Waikato farmland near Hamilton.
