Misión Posible: From Dream to Flight in Venezuela
A Murphy Renegade Story of Restoration and Resilience
A Country of Beauty and Challenge
Some aircraft are more than machines — they are stories waiting to be told. That is certainly the case for one Murphy Renegade biplane in Venezuela, a country known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich aviation history, and resilient people.

Two Friends, One Vision
At the heart of this journey are two passionate individuals: Dino Giovanone, a pilot with over 45 years of flying experience, and his friend and collaborator, Italo Giordano. Together, they set out to restore a forgotten aircraft — possibly the only flying Murphy Renegade in the country — and return it to the skies of Mérida, a mountainous region in western Venezuela famed for its soaring Andean peaks and high-altitude airstrips.
A Forgotten Aircraft, A Historic Legacy
The Renegade’s story began in the early 1980s, when a kit was imported into Venezuela by Pino Turco, an Italo-Venezuelan entrepreneur and aviation enthusiast. It was assembled by Aerocentro in Caracas — at a time when Venezuela had a thriving general aviation scene. Under the guidance of Engineer Valerio Reremidi, the Renegade was built using aluminum tubing, fabric, wood, and steel wire — in the spirit of classic 1920s biplanes.

From Abandoned Frame to Flying Again
Years later, the aircraft was grounded and left abandoned. But Dino, recognizing its historic and emotional value, saw not just a project — but una historia que merecía volar otra vez (a story that deserved to fly again).

Rebuilding with Heart, One Step at a Time
With limited access to resources, tools, and parts — a challenge familiar to many in Venezuela — Dino and Italo took on a labor-intensive
mission to restore the aircraft from the ground up. Step by step, poco a poco (little by little), they rewired, recovered, rigged, and reassembled
every inch of the Renegade with precision and care.

The Moment of Flight
Their determination paid off. After years of silence, the Renegade took to the skies once more — flying over the dramatic ridgelines of Mérida.
It was a proud moment not just for Dino and Italo, but for the Venezuelan aviation community as a whole: proof that with enough passion and
resilience, el vuelo es posible (flight is possible).
Gracias de corazón, Dino e Italo
Murphy Aircraft extends its deepest thanks to Dino Giovanone and Italo Giordano for their extraordinary
dedication, craftsmanship, and spirit.
Gracias de corazón, Dino e Italo, por devolverle el alma al Renegade.
(Thank you from the heart, Dino and Italo, for bringing the soul back to the Renegade.)
Gracias por demostrar que con pasión, paciencia y propósito, todo es posible.
(Thank you for showing that with passion, patience, and purpose, anything is possible.)
Your story has touched the entire Murphy Aircraft community. It reminds us why we build, why we fly, and
why we believe so strongly in the power of amateur-built aviation.
